So Samyu has been watching "Life" with Valli and so she excitedly is telling me about all the strategies animals employ to take care of their young ones. 

This entailed a detailed description of the poison dart frog that carries its offspring on its back up a tree which is apparently akin to a human mother hauling her offspring up the Empire State Building.

And then she concludes that humans are the most boring species because they don't do anything half as exciting for their babies- except ofcourse for buying toys. 

"But that's not true. Let me tell you that a human mother takes care of the baby in her womb for a whole nine months and gives it her blood, her food, her oxygen, genes (and some masala)"

"So"?

"So how can you say that humans don't do much for their offspring?"

"Excuse me, that's nothing. Elephants take care of their babies in their wombs for a whole 15 months"

So we finally went to the Zoo again for her holidays. At the entrance, we see stingrays and tiny monkeys with human faces and incredibly cute gestures.

Me: "See Samyu, these monkeys are so cute. Spider monkeys eh? (I blabber the first name that comes to mind)

She: No these are not spider monkeys because number one they have super long arms and number two they live on much higher trees.

These are Tamarin monkeys. They come from central and South America. And this must be the male because in the animal world, males are more attractive than the females.

Me: oh (!). Wow Samyu.btw how did you know that this monkey is attractive compared to the others?

She: Because he has a lighter skin and as you know that is more attractive.

Me: (Quite alarmed now)What makes you think lighter skin color is more attractive?

She: Relax. I am not talking of humans. Only animals. And they don't know that evryone looks beautiful despite differences in skin color and eye color.

So Samyu comes to take my bindi off at her usual playful best. I told her that it is not done

"Why"

"Hmm. Because only married woman wear bindis and we shouldn't take it off"

"You are married and I don't see you wearing that everyday. Plus I wear it sometimes. I am not married"

"Hmm. In India only people whose husbands have left them take their bindi off"

"That's not true. Ammamma wears a bindi"

Samyu: "Elephants have a memory span of 199 thousand years"

Me: Our memory span is (only) as long as we live 

Samyu: Goldfish has a memory span of 3 seconds but their lives definitely are longer than 3 seconds.
